The first step in building a Web presence is to understand what you can do and plan a course of action. Decide how you want to present yourself. From a single Web page to dozens, stating who you are, what you will sell, and how to contact you. Begin your starting point. Sketch it out on a piece of paper. It doesn't have to be the greatest, flashiest site. Look at other Web sites to get an idea of how you might like yours to appear.

4. An understanding of your position   and positioning  in the competitive field;
5. Marketing principles and techniques .
6. An ability to forge from all this an appropriate strategy unique to your marketing situation on the web;
7. The web design expertise  and web  expertise  needed to implement that strategy in creating an effective   website.
